The Rooms

Caterpillars and Butterflies

Our baby rooms are for boys and girls aged approximately 0-2 years with a ratio of 1 member of staff to 3 children, with a maximum of 6 children in Caterpillars and 12 children in Butterflies. They are located on the first floor and are accessed through an internal security door – providing parents with peace of mind.

Our staff are dedicated to working with parents to replicate the routines established at home to provide stability for children. Each child will be cared for by a key worker who will endeavour to build a caring relationship and provide feedback to parents about their child’s development.

Parents will also be provided with daily information about sleeping, eating and toilet arrangements, as well as activities the children have taken part in that day.

Rooms Designed for Curious Play

The baby rooms are light and spacious and designed to provide a curious environment for our littlest children to explore the world around them. The children are encouraged to learn through play and have access to a home corner, quiet area, loose parts and small world, sand, play dough station and a creative area.

All resources are placed at child height to encourage the children to follow their own interests. Outdoor play is a part of their daily routine with children enjoying daily access to the shared nursery garden or going for walks in the local area.

Leaders plan for children’s individual needs and track each child’s development. Although there is an established routine, this is always subject to change as we put the needs of the child first.

There is a separate nappy changing area with potty training facilities located on the first floor which is clean and bright and promotes children’s need for privacy. A separate sleeping area, with cots, is located in an adjoining room with intercom monitors and viewing panels.

Tweenie Turtles

Our Tweenie Turtles room is for children aged approximately 2 to 2 ½ years with a ratio of 1 member of staff to every 4 children (maximum of 6 children). The room was created to hold a small group of children to ease the transition process to the Toddler Department (Busy Bees).

Although the room is quite small, staff have been very clever at maximising the space. Children have access to a home corner, quiet area, play dough station, loose parts and sand as well as a small world fairy garden. There is also a table for children to access mark making equipment, as well as being able to play in the nursery garden every day. After lunch the room is transformed into a tranquil sleep room and children are able to have a period of rest if needed.

Busy Bees

Our Busy Toddler Bees is a room for boys and girls aged approximately 2 ½ to 3 years with a ratio of 1 member of staff to 4 children (maximum of 12 children). It is located on the ground floor and has been designed to provide opportunities for the children to start to become independent learners.

The children have access to a home corner, story corner, dressing up, loose parts, sand, play dough and mark making equipment. They enjoy the free flow of the room and exploring their own interests. Staff plan a variety of activities that allow children to have directed focused activities as well as free play. Children start to develop their self-help skills by serving their own food and helping to clear up after mealtimes.

Each child has a key worker who is available either before or after each session to talk to parents about what their child has achieved during the day. Parents are also provided with daily written information retelling their child’s day at nursery.

Cheeky Monkeys

Cheeky Monkeys is a large pre-school room on the ground floor for children aged approximately 3 and over. The ratio for this area is 1 member of staff to 8 boys/girls (with a maximum of 30 children). The room has been designed as a large open plan space that allows children to move freely through different areas and become independent learners.

Our pre-school curriculum is structured around the Foundation Phase, which is used in nursery and infant schools for children aged 3-7 years. Staff plan activities to cover Foundation Phase skills but there is a strong emphasis on the children directing their own learning. Staff facilitate ‘in the moment’ planning projects and look for teachable moments in everyday play situations.

Weekly planning is displayed in the waiting room along with the interactive planning board and the children’s planning ideas. We aim to take the children on educational visits and invite visitors into the nursery to enhance their learning and work in conjunction with the planning.

The children are taught through the English Language but we encourage a knowledge and  understanding of basic Welsh and are always keen to learn new words from other cultures

Kidz@Lullabyz

Kidz@Lullabyz is a breakfast, after-school and holiday club located in a detached building for boys and girls aged 4-12 years. The ratio is 1 member of staff to 8 children (with a maximum of 16 children). The emphasis is on FUN and we strive to provide opportunities for the children to play, relax, socialise and enjoy their time out of school.

At Breakfast Club the children are provided with a choice of cereals, toast and a drink before being escorted to school by a staff member.

Our after-school children are picked-up from school, given a light tea and then provided with opportunities to play both in the nursery garden and in the kids club building. They have access to loose parts, play dough, craft, games, tools and most favourably ‘the chill out’ zone.

During Holiday Club children plan activities with staff based around their own interests and curiosities. We plan for visits to come into the kids club and the children are taken on regular outings. Children are completely independent and staff are there to support and help whenever needed.
